Food

Vasa’s size and small number of inhabitants belies its culinary expertise. The village features three tavernas (Pyrkos, Palati, and Ariadni), as well as three coffeeshops and a bakery that produces a local type of bread made with the addition of chickpea flour (arkaténa).

The retreat’s breakfasts and dinners are prepared by our resident chef, Manolis Melissaris of The Lonely Olive, who is also a novelist. Manolis stays with the group for the duration of the retreat, and so does Zafeiro Neofytou, aka Thursday Pastry, our resident pastry chef, who prepares all our cakes, pastries, and snacks. Breakfast, tea/coffee, and dinner are offered on the balcony of Oikia Roti.

Retreat lunches are held at two of the village’s tavernas, Pyrkos and Palati, on a rotational basis. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are available every day (please state your preference, or any food allergies, when you book). We offer a meze-style dinner at the third village taverna, Ariadni.

Locally produced wine is offered with dinner. Water and soft drinks are available at lunchtime. All other alcoholic drinks must be bought separately.
